Rustic works particularly well when you want your walls to have some character without introducing a bold decorative pattern. Coconut White is an easy choice for lighter schemes, while Green and Blue can bring more colour and depth to a room. Black creates a stronger, more dramatic backdrop.

The slightly mottled edges are worth considering when deciding how much of the wall to tile. Used across a larger area, they create subtle variation that stops the surface feeling overly uniform. Used behind a basin, worktop or other focal point, they can add texture without overwhelming the rest of the room.

As a porcelain tile, Rustic also offers a particularly practical option where you want the appearance of a more tactile, characterful tile alongside the durability associated with porcelain.

Rustic lends itself naturally to materials with their own texture and warmth. Coconut White works beautifully alongside natural timber, stone and warm neutral shades, while Green and Blue can be paired with oak, off-whites and brushed metal finishes for a more layered look.

Black can be particularly effective when balanced with lighter materials, allowing the tile to provide contrast without making the whole room feel dark.

You don't need to match your surrounding finishes exactly to the tile. In fact, Rustic's subtle variation gives you an opportunity to pick up related tones elsewhere in the room rather than searching for an identical colour. Timber, stone, painted cabinetry and natural fabrics can all help reinforce its relaxed character.

The softly mottled edge is an important part of what gives Rustic its appearance. Rather than each tile meeting its neighbour with a completely flat, visually identical edge, subtle texture and tonal variation soften the transition between tiles.

This becomes more noticeable once several tiles are installed together. The result is a wall with gentle movement, particularly when light catches the surface from different angles.

It's a useful characteristic to understand before choosing Rustic because the finished wall won't have the completely consistent appearance of a highly uniform tile. That's intentional: the small variations are what give the collection its more relaxed, tactile quality.

Viewing a physical sample is therefore particularly worthwhile. It lets you see how the texture, colour and variation work together in the lighting of your own room.

With a characterful tile like Rustic, grout can either complement the variation or make the individual tiles much more prominent. A grout close to the main tile colour will create a softer overall appearance, allowing the mottled edges to blend naturally into the wall. A contrasting grout will emphasise the grid and give the laying pattern more definition.

A traditional brick bond can enhance Rustic's relaxed character, while a stacked layout creates a cleaner, more contemporary feel. The choice can be particularly noticeable with the darker Green, Blue and Black shades, where a contrasting joint will create a stronger graphic effect.

Because Rustic already has texture and tonal variation around its edges, we would generally consider the surrounding scheme before introducing too many additional patterns. Letting the tile provide the visual interest can often produce the more balanced result.
