Collection: Rippled
Rippled gloss tiles have a particularly lovely way of bringing a wall to life. The surface isn't completely flat, so light moves across the raised and recessed areas rather than reflecting in one uninterrupted plane. That creates changing highlights, softer shadows and a sense of depth that can make even a simple colour feel much more interesting.

What does a ripple actually add?
The ripple changes more than the texture you can feel with your fingertips. It changes the way the entire wall is perceived.
On a flat glazed tile, the reflection tends to be relatively consistent. With a rippled surface, the direction of that reflection is constantly changing, so different parts of the tile catch the light at different angles. The result is a wall that appears to shift subtly as you move around it.
This is why rippled tiles can make a fairly simple colour feel richer without needing a complicated pattern. The surface itself is providing the visual movement.
The degree of ripple matters, though. A fine wave can create a gentle shimmer that's easy to use over a large area, while a deeper profile becomes much more sculptural and is better treated as a feature in its own right.
Choosing the right amount of movement
Not every rippled tile creates the same atmosphere. Some have barely perceptible undulation, while others have pronounced waves or ridges that become an obvious part of the architecture.
A subtle ripple is generally easier to carry across a full kitchen or bathroom because it adds depth without dominating the room. More pronounced relief can be extremely effective behind a vanity, bath or cooker where you want the wall to have greater visual impact.
It's also worth thinking about what else is happening in the room. If the flooring has strong pattern, the worktop is heavily veined or the cabinetry is highly detailed, a quieter ripple may create the better balance.
On the other hand, in a relatively restrained room, a stronger rippled tile can provide the detail that stops the space feeling too flat.
Light can completely change the effect
Ripples become most interesting when they meet directional light.
A wall receiving light from the side will generally reveal much more of the surface relief than one illuminated evenly from directly in front. This can make the texture appear deeper in the morning, softer in daylight or more dramatic under evening wall lighting.
That's something worth considering before choosing where to install a rippled tile. If the wall has a nearby window, pendant, wall light or other directional source, you may see far more variation than you would from the sample alone.
It also explains why photographs can sometimes be misleading. A product image is capturing one moment, from one angle and under one lighting arrangement. In your home, the surface will continue changing as the light changes.
Let the texture have the final word
A rippled gloss tile already has quite a lot going on at the surface, so the materials around it can be used to control how dramatic the overall room feels.
Smooth cabinetry, simple stone and clean-lined sanitaryware create a useful contrast because the eye can immediately see the difference between the flat and rippled surfaces. Timber and natural materials add warmth without introducing another competing pattern.
Colour matters too. A pale rippled tile can let the texture become the main feature, while a deeper shade can combine colour intensity with strong highlights and shadows.
The same principle applies to grout. A closely related joint lets the ripple remain the focus, while a contrasting grout adds another layer of lines across the wall. Before introducing contrast, ask yourself whether the tile already has enough visual information to make the wall interesting.
