Collection: Matt
Matt wall tiles have a quieter way of shaping a room. Without a glossy surface reflecting every source of light, the colour and texture tend to feel softer and more grounded, making matt a particularly good choice when you want the walls to sit naturally within the wider scheme. From gentle neutrals to deeper colours and textured finishes, matt tiles can create anything from a calm backdrop to a much more tactile focal point.

How matt tiles changes the feel of a room
Light behaves very differently on a matt surface. Rather than bouncing back strongly from the wall, it is diffused more gently, which can make colours feel deeper and less changeable throughout the day.
That can be useful when you want a room to feel grounded rather than highly reflective. A soft cream or warm white can sit quietly behind cabinetry, while a deeper green, blue or earthy shade can feel rich without becoming visually intense.
Matt can also help a room feel less "finished" in the polished sense. That sounds like a strange distinction, but it is often what makes it appealing: the surface doesn't constantly announce itself. It sits within the room, allowing the architecture, furniture and other materials to share the attention.
Where a matt wall can solve a design problem
Bathrooms and kitchens contain a surprising amount of reflection - mirrors, glass, metal, appliances and polished worktops all introduce highlights. A matt wall can provide a useful counterpoint to all of that.
It's particularly effective when the room already has a lot of visual information. If the flooring has movement, the worktop has veining or the cabinetry has a strong colour, a matt tile can give the eye somewhere quieter to rest.
The opposite can also be true. In a very simple room, a textured matt tile can provide interest without relying on shine or pattern. The finish becomes part of the atmosphere rather than simply a decorative feature.
Why colour can feel richer in matt
Matt finishes tend to reveal colour in a slightly different way from gloss because there are fewer reflected highlights interrupting what you see. This can make deeper shades feel more substantial and muted colours feel especially soft.
It's also where undertones become important. A matt green may reveal warmer or cooler qualities depending on the surrounding paint, cabinetry and natural light. A cream can move towards yellow beside warm timber, for example, while appearing cleaner next to cooler stone.
For that reason, choosing a matt tile from a screen alone can be misleading. We always recommend looking at a sample alongside the finishes that will actually surround it. The colour you are choosing is not really just the tile - it is the tile in its intended environment.
Make matt more interesting through contrast
A matt wall doesn't need to be surrounded by other matt finishes. In fact, contrast is often what makes it work.
Polished brass, glazed ceramics, glass, smooth stone and glossy cabinetry can all look more pronounced beside a softly finished tile because the difference in surface catches the eye. Timber can do something different again, adding warmth and variation without introducing another reflective element.
This is particularly useful when a room risks feeling overly uniform. A matt tile can provide the quieter texture against which a more reflective fitting or material becomes the detail.
The trick is to think in terms of how each surface handles light, rather than simply collecting different finishes because they look good individually.
