Let Colour Take Centre Stage
A feature wall doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes the most effective way to create one is simply to introduce a colour that the rest of the room deliberately leaves out.
Wall tiles are particularly powerful for this because they allow colour to become part of the architecture. Rather than adding colour through paint, furniture or accessories, the wall itself becomes the statement.
A deep green behind a basin can turn an otherwise understated bathroom into something much more atmospheric. A rich blue surrounding a fireplace can create a sense of depth in a living space. Even softer shades such as sage, clay, cream or dusty pink can create a feature when they are given enough visual space.
The key is contrast.
A feature wall works best when the surrounding walls and furnishings give it somewhere to breathe. If everything is competing for attention, the effect can become diluted. Conversely, a relatively restrained room can make a beautifully coloured tiled wall feel far more dramatic.
You don't necessarily need to cover an entire wall, either. Tiling from floor to ceiling within a specific architectural zone can create a strong visual anchor, particularly behind a vanity, bath, fireplace or shelving.
Design thought: A feature wall doesn't need to be loud. It simply needs to be different enough to be noticed.
