Bring Colour to the Kitchen Walls

The return of colour in kitchens isn't about making everything bright. It is about making the room feel warmer, more personal and less clinical.

Wall tiles are particularly effective for this because they allow you to introduce colour in a controlled way. A muted sage, earthy terracotta, dusty blue or deep burgundy can completely alter the atmosphere of a kitchen without committing the entire room to that colour.

This is where the relationship between tile and cabinetry becomes important.

Warm cream cabinets paired with a soft green tile can create a calm, natural scheme. Dark cabinetry can be lifted with a warm ivory or softly reflective tile. Natural timber works beautifully alongside clay, olive and sandy tones, while deeper colours can provide contrast against lighter worktops.

The current move towards warmer kitchen palettes is also closely connected to the growing popularity of glazed and handmade-inspired wall tiles. Their colour isn't always completely uniform; subtle tonal variation means the wall has depth rather than appearing as a flat block of colour.

And that variation is often what makes a kitchen feel finished.

Instead of asking “What colour tile matches my kitchen?”, consider asking “What atmosphere do I want this kitchen to have?”

A tile can make a kitchen feel Mediterranean, traditional, contemporary, earthy, playful or quietly luxurious - sometimes without changing anything else.

Design thought: Use the wall tile to introduce the colour your cabinetry doesn't.
